The Women’s National Basketball Association is set to extend its regular season from 44 to 50 games beginning in 2027, marking a significant milestone in the league’s ongoing development.

This adjustment is part of the newly agreed Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which stipulates a 50-game schedule for both the 2027 and 2028 seasons. The 2027 season will conclude no later than November 21, while the following year’s campaign is scheduled to finish by November 30.

WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert highlighted the league’s surging popularity as a driving factor behind the expansion. She emphasized that the increased number of games aligns with the growing demand and the league’s commitment to offering fans more opportunities to witness the exceptional talent and competitive spirit that define the WNBA.

League Growth Fuels Schedule Expansion

This announcement comes on the heels of a period marked by rapid growth for the WNBA, including the introduction of two expansion teams in the current season. Looking ahead, the league is preparing to welcome new franchises in Cleveland, Detroit, and Philadelphia within the next four years, further broadening its reach and competitive landscape.

By extending the regular season, the WNBA aims to capitalize on its increasing momentum, strengthening its presence in the sports world and enhancing the overall experience for players and fans alike.
