Jamie Dornan has been cast as Strider, replacing Viggo Mortensen in the upcoming film The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. Mortensen, known for his iconic portrayal of Aragorn in previous installments, has opted not to return for this new chapter, while other notable actors such as Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, and Lee Pace will reprise their respective roles.
Director Andy Serkis, who also returns as Sméagol, explained in a recent interview that this iteration of the character represents a distinct phase in his journey, one that unfolds before the familiar Aragorn seen in earlier films. “We’re calling him Strider in our movie,” Serkis revealed, “and he is at a different point in his journey so he is slightly different to the Aragorn we see later on. It’s a version of himself that’s been out in the wilderness as a Dúnedain ranger. But Jamie is perfect for this part of the journey of the character.”

The Hunt for Gollum traces events running parallel to those in The Fellowship of the Ring. The narrative centers on Gandalf enlisting Strider’s expertise to track down Gollum, aiming to uncover vital information amid rising concerns of Sauron’s impending return.
