Gary Oldman, star of the acclaimed series Slow Horses, has hinted that the decision regarding the next James Bond has already been made, though Amazon MGM has yet to officially reveal the successor to Daniel Craig.
During an interview with Canadian broadcaster Global, Oldman discussed the speculation surrounding Jack Lowden, his co-star from the series. “There have been rumors that [Lowden] is on the shortlist. We’ll find out pretty soon, won’t we? Because they’ve chosen him. They’ve made their choice, but they haven’t announced it yet,” Oldman revealed, expressing his support for Lowden’s potential casting.
An Unexpected Contender
Jack Lowden’s possible selection as the new 007 carries a layer of irony, considering his current role as River Cartwright in Slow Horses. Since 2022, Lowden has portrayed Cartwright, a gifted MI5 agent whose assignments often lead to precarious situations. The series itself is known for depicting a much grittier and less glamorous version of British espionage, contrasting sharply with the suave and polished image typically associated with James Bond.
This juxtaposition adds an intriguing dimension to Lowden’s candidacy, as his portrayal of a flawed, realistic spy may have positioned him uniquely for the iconic role in cinema’s most famous British spy franchise.
