Recent hours have seen a wave of false reports circulating on social media claiming the death of martial arts legend and actor Jackie Chan. Despite these widespread rumors, there has been no official confirmation from the 72-year-old star’s family or representatives, indicating the news is unfounded.
These unverified claims originated primarily from a viral post on the platform X, authored by a user named Abdul. The post, which has attracted over eight million views since its publication on Monday, featured a black-and-white photo of Chan with the caption “1954-2026.”
Dissecting the Origin of the Death Rumor
Abdul’s post also included the text: “Jacki [sic] Chan had passed the age of 71 now he’s 72, kung-fu legend.” The choice of words, paired with the photo’s somber tone and the years stated, led many to interpret “2026” as the year of Chan’s death. However, the phrase “had passed the age of 71” was intended to mark Chan’s birthday on April 7, when he turned 72, rather than signify his passing.
Adding to the clarification, a community note beneath the post explicitly states that the image resembles an obituary but confirms that Jackie Chan is alive and active at age 72. This correction helps dispel the confusion caused by the ambiguous wording and imagery.
