The recent leaks surrounding GTA 6 have inflicted substantial damage on both Take-Two and Rockstar Games, compelling the publisher to pursue legal measures against those responsible. With an official reveal event scheduled soon on Netflix, these unauthorized early disclosures have forced Take-Two to act decisively in identifying and stopping the source of the leaks.

On August 20, Take-Two submitted a motion to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, as detailed by Kotaku. The motion demands that both Discord and Microsoft hand over critical user data and communication records related to the leak by September 4. This legal step represents an aggressive attempt to trace the leak back to the individuals or groups involved.

Targeted Data Requests to Uncover Leak Origins

Microsoft faces a request to deliver all internal business and investigative records concerning the identity known as “cyberleek”. This includes information adequate to identify any users or entities linked to this alias. The demand reflects Take-Two’s focus on tracing the leak’s digital footprints within Microsoft’s systems.

Discord is subject to a broader data request. The company must provide identifying details for all accounts that have communicated within specific Discord servers from June 1, 2026, to the present. Additionally, Take-Two seeks any associated telemetry or device data tied to these accounts, particularly if certain tool or file artifacts connected to the leak were present on their systems.

This comprehensive data collection effort highlights the publisher’s commitment to uncovering every aspect of the leak’s distribution channels, aiming to hold accountable those who compromised the highly anticipated game’s confidentiality.
